A letter from the YMC to parents of last year’s Confirmation students

Last May, your child said ‘yes’ to living his or her faith out for the rest of their life and in doing so, received the Sacrament of Confirmation. On paper, receiving this final Sacrament of Initiation marks the end of the spiritual journey as a child. But, as a catechist and spiritual leader in the Catholic Church, I view the Sacrament of Confirmation as the beginning of our spiritual journey as an adult, one that should continue for the rest our lives.

As the Youth Ministry & Young Adult Coordinator for Church of the Resurrection, it is my duty and calling to provide opportunities for the young people of our church to continue living out the Gospel in their daily lives post-Confirmation. The high school youth ministry program is one such opportunity that allows the teens of our parish community to continue learning about their faith, ask questions in a safe environment, be surrounded by other Catholic teens, and continue living the Gospel through service projects and volunteer work in and out of our parish community. This weekend our high school youth ministry kicks off its 2011-2012 campaign with our monthly Youth & Young Adult Mass followed by our Kickoff Barbecue. The Youth & Young Adult Mass is a mass that occurs at 5:30pm every first-Sunday of the month and targets teens and young adults with music, homilies, and reflections skits that young people can identify with. The kickoff barbecue immediately follows the mass and is a chance for high school students to meet their peers from our parish community. For more information, please visit: or search for ‘Resurrection Youth Ministry’ on Facebook.

In this day and age, especially in the valley in which we live in, our daily lives can often be inundated with the pressures to succeed as individuals in our schooling, careers, and material wealth. Please help your child succeed in the long haul – at ‘Life’ – by sharing this email with them, and having an open discussion about continuing their spiritual journey sooner than later. It is when life becomes most overwhelming when the true peace and joy the Lord offers us becomes most important.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

In Christ,
